The Feminine Eye

I enjoy reading The Thinking Housewife very much, and appreciate your defense of traditional values and morality. I discovered your website through my favorite traditionalist website, Lawrence Auster’s View from the Right. I read both of them on a daily basis.

I hope you won’t find my question frivolous, but I have always wondered what the eye on your masthead signifies, if anything.  Perhaps, with apologies to Freud, “Sometimes an eye is just an eye.”

Thank you for the good and thoughtful work you do.

Thank you for writing.

That’s a good question and it’s not frivolous at all. To put it simply, the eye on the masthead stands for the Feminine Eye, as opposed to the Feminist I.

The Feminine Eye represents watchfulness, insight, intuition, vigilance and love. The Feminine Eye, as the insight of all good women, affects and protects culture. While it is certainly not true that only housewives possess feminine watchfulness, this vigilance is weakened and degraded in a world that transforms women into men, and no woman who does not support the traditional work of wives and mothers could possibly safeguard this kind of insight in herself or others.

In case I have not already made myself clear elsewhere, when I refer to the traditional work of women, I include submission to male authority as an essential part of that role.
