The Cookie and the Man

NEWT GINGRICH, who is scoring well in early polls on 2012 Presidential contenders, says this in an interesting interview with John H. Richardson of Esquire:
There’s a large part of me that’s four years old. I wake up in the morning and I know that somewhere there’s a cookie. I don’t know where it is but I know it’s mine and I have to go find it. That’s how I live my life. My life is amazingly filled with fun.

Thank you for the quote from Gingrich. It adds to the existing supply of facts demonstrating his unfitness for the office of President going back to the early 1990’s.
Presidents are supposed to lead, like the elected quasi-monarchs they are, not go looking for cookies.

I don’t know whether to laugh or weep with this quote but I’m inclined to go with the tears. This is all part of the Death of the Grown-up syndrome described by Diane West. Can you imagine George Washington saying, “My life is amazingly filled with fun,” let alone uttering that unspeakable nonsense about hunting for cookies. If I had a four year old who spoke like this, I would be mortified.
