Gratitude from a World of Just Friends

I am donating to thank you for your very important work at The Thinking Housewife.

I’m a young, unmarried man (31), so I am beginning to feel the effects of the malaise you so meticulously describe. Meeting a family-oriented woman in the world of “young professionals” (where I find myself) is nigh impossible. Why don’t women want families anymore? What’s so great about that which they would have instead?

Faced with infinite choice, my generation chooses on the basis of short-term preference, rather than with an eye toward future necessity. I look around and can’t imagine what we will look like in fifty years. It doesn’t seem that there will be much of a younger generation to look after us — just a loose tribe of friends. Will anybody care about or depend on our existence at all?

It’s refreshing to see these questions answered so adeptly. Now if only you would start a matchmaking service…

Thanks again for your terrific work and have a Happy New Year.

Thank you for your support.

I wish I could make matches. I wish I could make millions of them. It’s a world of impersonal romancing out there; everyone is left standing on quicksand. There is no form or structure to courtship at all. Most of the women you meet do want families. They just think they have all the time in the world to put it off. There is no urgency, no sense that something larger than their own happiness is at stake.

We have a beautiful 25-year-old daughter who is very family-oriented and looking for a hard working, intellectual Christian man….emphasis on the Christian. Please let Nick know!

I will forward your note to him.

On the subject of matchmaking, I am sure there are various online dating communities affiliated with churches or social activities sponsored by churches that might be a good way to meet the kind of woman you are looking for, but I’d like to mention a website geared towards men and women who are looking for traditional relationships; relationships where the man is in charge; that is non-religious, that is accepting of all comers.

“Taken in Hand” relationships are based on male headship; the idea is that the man “takes the woman in hand.” The website characterizes itself as “Romantic Dating, and Friend Finder for Taken in Hand minded men and women.”

I wish you luck in your efforts at finding a family-oriented woman who will make a good wife for you and a good mother to your children.
