Andy writes:

Is that the subject’s prosthetic foot, with her shoe sliding off, or is it a shoe stretcher or last or some such, which happens to be in the floor by the chair?

I do enjoy the paintings you’ve been posting, by the way.

Laura writes:

I assumed that she had her foot half in and half out of her clog and was sitting in a twisted position, but maybe it is a prosthetic foot because it doesn’t seem to match the other shoe. The way she is sitting is so realistic. I imagine she is peeling very, very slowly.

The paintings are from Victorian/Edwardian paintings, a great blog.

Eric writes:

Her left foot is closest to the viewer and half out of the shoe. The right leg is crossed over the left and forms the base for the tool she is holding, with her right foot in the distance.

Laura writes:

But the right shoe seems different.
