Is There a Thespian in the House?
October 12, 2011
A FRIEND OF MINE once attended a meeting of the Piscataway Township, N.J. school board. One of the schools in the district was well known for its drama productions.
One school board member saw a notice of the school’s latest play and said at the meeting, “Oooh, I see we have some budding thespians in the school district.”
A board member responded, in all seriousness: “Thespians! There are NO thespians teaching in this school district. We don’t allow them here.”
My friend said, “That’s not true. There are thespians coming out of the woodwork.”

Since they allow pedagogues, they might as well allow thespians.
Leonidas did.

They are allowing PEDAGOGY in the NJ schools? Disgraceful! This should be reported immediately!
Laura writes:
That’s unfair. Pedagogues are born pedagogues. It’s not something they choose to be.
Roger writes:
Maybe they can’t help being pedagogues, but they can choose whether to practice pedagogy. At least they could keep their activities within the pedagogic community, and not subject us to their perversions.

I disagree. All the research says that environment is important in creating a pedagogue. I do however think that pedants are born, not made. If you are pedantic, it’s something you can’t choose. Why, I’ve even met pedantic bus drivers!
Laura writes:
I’d have to see the research on that.
I know a woman who divorced her husband. Not long after they married, it was clear he was pedantic.
