A graphic, unflinching look at the delicate interplay of desire, money and power among European women sex tourists and African gigolos hit the screen yesterday in the Cannes contender “Paradise: Love”.

Austrian director Ulrich Seidl, who scandalised cinema’s top international showcase five years ago with another take on rich and poor and the sex trade, “Import/Export”, this time turns his camera on women as the consumers.

“Paradise: Love” stars Margarethe Tiesel as Teresa, a 50-year-old Viennese single mother of an insolent teenage daughter who needs a break from it all, in a breakout performance cheered by audiences here.

Classic… Swipes at “modern” capitalism ignoring the role of feminism.

“It is about female loneliness that takes hold when you reach a certain age and no longer look like someone from an advert,” Tiesel told reporters.

The Princess didn’t find Prince Charming. So she tramps about and we should all feel sorry for her poor, shallow, and selfish choices throughout her life.

“The exploited begin to exploit in a place where they have power. I don’t judge these women, I understand them and I understand completely what they struggle with.”

Top it off: Women in the Western world are exploited and oppressed. Play the victim card.

How is it an achievement for white women to get laid in the Third World?

Sleeping with a white woman is a high-status act which instantly elevates the man. Doesn’t matter if she’s a bit worse for the wear.

Come to think of it, it doesn’t take too much effort to get a man to sleep with any woman.

So, what exactly is the achievement that these women are celebrating?

These women are such an embarrassment. Can they not find something more worthwhile to do? Such as: help people, volunteer in their communities, teach the young, visit the elderly, comfort the sick, find a interesting hobby?

In addition to demonstrating an unhinged envy of men, they are further demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of male psychology (and female psyche, for that matter).

Sleeping with many women, being a “player,” earns a man grudging respect, not only from other men, but also from women (Alas, I am no player – far from it. A state of affairs that certainly does nothing for my self-esteem).

There is no corresponding respect for a woman who sleeps around. While she is young, she is sought after as a conquest; but after a certain age, she is nothing more than the last woman in the bar after closing time.

These women are completely delusional if they think they are beating the boys at their game. Whereas the third-worlders they bedded got to show off their conquest of a white woman, and move up a rung on their primitive social ladder, these women will return home, as spiritually and sexually unsatisfied as ever, because deep down inside, they know they were ill-used.

Could that be one explanation for this gruesome movie? A desperate attempt to vindicate their self-degradation.
