California Senate Bans Therapy for Homosexuals

May 31, 2012

CONVERSION THERAPY, which helps homosexuals battle same-sex desires, was banned yesterday by California State Senate in another blatant political endorsement of a lifestyle that causes suicide, disease and depression. A lengthy response by Christopher H. Rosik, Ph.D. of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality can be found here.

Randy Thomasson of SaveCalifornia.comsaid the bill would keep effective treatment from adolescents who have been sexually abused.

So let’s get this straight (no pun intended)…

The senate bills bans Sexual Orientation Change Efforts based on the suicide rates of a group of people known to have increased suicide rates, even without therapy?

In reading Dr. Rosik’s response, he cites that the bill states that therapy includes shock therapy and drugs known to cause nausea. The bill purports that the therapy can be harmful and that practitioners deny this. The bill also states that the intent is protect minors from the harmful effects of such therapy, including mental and emotional disorders and suicide. Dr. Rosik does a good job of addressing the falsehoods and outdated information that are the laurels on which this bill lies.

However, should cancer treatment be banned in California? All of the above statements, with perhaps the exception of shock therapy, could apply to cancer as well.

Laura writes:

California does not ban Prozac, which has contributed to the incidence of suicide.
