Mother and Soldier

September 18, 2012

A FEMALE  Air Force sergeant and the mother of two children allegedly had her husband shoot her twice in the legs last week to avoid a military deployment to Asia. According to the Associated Press:

Police say 25-year-old Judy Groomes was treated for wounds on both of her legs from one round from a handgun fired by her husband, 26-year-old Christopher Tyquan Groomes. Both are active military based at nearby Barksdale Air Force Base.

Groomes allegedly claimed an intruder shot her early Friday while her husband and two children slept. But police say she convinced her husband to shoot her to avoid military service.

Groomes, below, is white and her husband is black. Here is a slightly longer version of the story at The Daily Mail. None of the newspaper accounts of this highly implausible story say how the police know that Judy Groomes induced her husband to shoot her.

James P. writes:

Taken at face value, the story further highlights the worthlessness of female “soldiers” — male cowards at least have the guts to shoot themselves in order to avoid combat, but female cowards aren’t even brave enough for that…

Laura writes:

Taken at face value, I assume she didn’t want to leave her children. But it’s still a lack of cowardice because she should have left the military, even if that meant a dishonorable discharge.

Assuming that the police are correct, this is what the military has done — placed women in an impossible dilemma.

As a commenter at VFR wrote yesterday:

Only an intellectually confused, morally sick nation sends its women to war when there are able-bodied men available to go. Needless to say, only intellectually confused, morally sick men allow this to happen, and even cheer the women as they go off to war!

There’s a mighty parody to be had from this, if a man could but come by it.

Out of the focal and foremost fire,
Out of the hospital walls as dire,
Smitten of grape-shot and grangrene,
(Eighteenth battle, and he sixteen!)
Spectre! Such as you seldom see,
Little Giffen, of Tennessee.

The whole poem is here. Or maybe this one.

Eric writes:

I am friends with a girl who used to serve in the Army. She has told me that for some reason, miscegenation seems to be at least tolerated, if not subtly encouraged, by our current politically correct military. There are many useless white girls in relationships with the black “soldiers” who drive trucks and cook in the mess hall. (Very few are in any sort of “tip of the spear” combat element.)

But this is the sort of thinking (extreme dereliction of one’s duty) that you get once you start ignoring God and nature’s law that prohibits mating across color lines. If you ignore a rule and guide such as the injunction against racial mixing that is so ingrained in who humans are, then why not ignore every other standard, too?

If you can predict it, you can prevent it. The bad effects of black men in relationships with white girls is well known, and is easy to predict. It is a shame that we lack the fortitude to prevent or at least condemn this sort of thing.

Laura writes:

Interracial marriage is not sinful by definition. It may be uncharitable, imprudent and harm the ability to raise children well. It is wise for society to discourage it.
