Still in Chains

HOW LONG did it take Obama to mention slavery in his inaugural address? He restrained himself. He waited until the fifth paragraph. How long did it take him to mention the greedy rich? Twelfth paragraph. And the mothers, daughters and wives in chains because they do not make as much money as men? That was way down there: nineteenth. As were our enlightened forebears at Stonewall.

Given the content of your blog, I do not think you meant Stonewall. Did you mean Seneca? Because Obama mentioned that FIRST!

I meant Stonewall. My point was that he mentioned the Holy Trinity of liberalism: nonwhites, feminism and homosexual rights.

I really like Mark Driscoll. He seems to be one of the few American Christian leaders who has any guts.
I loved his comment on Obama’s inaugural ceremony: “Praying for our President, who today will place his hand on a Bible he does not believe to take an oath to a God he likely does not know.”
Obama has habitually and repeatedly trashed Christians on birth control, abortion, and gay marriage. He has called us “bitter clingers.” He thus deserves to be heavily criticized when he uses the Bible as a prop. I am happy that Driscoll had the guts to do it, and I note that he has gotten more than 10,000 likes on Facebook in response to his comment.

The fact that Obama mentioned the Stonewall Riot in his second inaugural is yet another example of how insane modern America is. What a shame.
I grew up in NYC during the ’60s. I do not remember the so-called Stonewall Riot although I was old enough to have. Sometime in the early 1980s, I happened to be in conversation with a man who also grew up in one of the working class neighborhoods of the “outer boroughs.” We compared memories. Do you know the way people who don’t know each other but who grew up in similar areas ask one another, “Do you remember this? Do you remember that?” Usually physical landmarks but sometimes events.
He asked me if I remembered the Stonewall Riot. I told him that I didn’t. At the time I was blissfully unaware of that kind of thing. I asked him why he did. He told me that his father was one of the cops on the vice squad who busted the place. It did not begin as a violent raid, but ended up as one. The reason why the vice squad kept busting the Inn was because it was a notorious drug and child-sex trafficking den.

I think the (un)holy trinity of liberalism consists of more fundamental concepts than the three you list. I think they are “liberty, fraternity and equality.”
