Will Catholic Bishops Go to Jail?

DANIEL S. writes:
Several American bishops have expressed their willingness to oppose Obama’s HHS mandate, even to the point of going to jail. I truly hope the bishops are sincere in this, and I pray they remain strong and steadfast in the facing the malevolent, secularist tyranny of Obama and the American government. I do find it disconcerting that at least one of the bishops said he would go to jail to defend “religious liberty” rather than explaining he would be potentially suffering imprisonment in and for his faith in the Holy Catholic Church. Obama’s HHS mandate is not an assault on some abstract concept like religious liberty, but rather a deliberate attack on specifically the Church.
Not surprisingly, the milquetoast Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington D.C. expressed his desire to find an “agreement” with the American government. Wuerl prefers his comfortable status with the elites in America’s capital to rocking anyone’s boat. The revival of the Latin mass upsets him more than pro-abortion “Catholic” politicians or Obama’s anti-Catholic power grabs.

Cardinal Francis George of the Archdiocese of Chicago had a much more optimistic point of view. He wrote:
“I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison, and his successor will die a martyr in the public square. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.”
