Father Francois Murad

Fr. Francois Murad, a Franciscan friar, was recently kidnapped and beheaded by Syrian Muslim rebels after they accused him of cooperating with the Assad regime (a mere pretext to murder him). In the gruesome video posted online by the rebels, a crowd of Syrian villagers (including women and children) and Muslim militants stand around chanting “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is Most Great) as a Muslim fighter beheads Fr. Francois and two other men. 

Since the civil war began in Syria, Eastern-rite Catholics and members of the Eastern Orthodox Church have been besieged by the jihadist rebels, who have received  backing from many Western nations, including the United States. From the the early stages the Christians suffered rampant murders, kidnappings, and terrorist threats.  Numerous prominent politicians in America, including Sen. John McCain, have been ardent supporters of the rebels, urging the American government to provided funding, training, and weapons and even intervene militarily on their behalf.
