Snow, Ice, Freezing Rain
February 6, 2014
WE were without electricity for most of the week due to damaging storms and that’s why you have not heard much from me. We had no Internet connection and it was difficult to connect anywhere nearby. More than half a million people were without power and most of them still don’t have electricity. Ten inches of snow fell, followed by freezing rain and then regular, normal, wet rain. It all stuck to the trees. For awhile, the roads were blocked in almost every direction with downed trees. A tree fell on the roof of one neighbor’s house and another fell across the driveway of our next-door neighbor. Sadly, a man in a nearby town was killed by a falling limb while he was helping a neighbor lift a branch.
Things are slowly getting back to normal. We have heat, but our house is still encased in ice.

You have survived!……I pray things weren’t too uncomfortable for you during your time without electricity. I think ice storms are the worst. Frankly, I’d rather drive in a blizzard than have to contend with what freezing rain brings.
Here (Minnesota) we’ve certainly had our share of snow, but it’s the severe cold and wind-chills that have been the hardest on us this year. The kind that seems to freeze your eyeballs and that makes you cough just trying to breathe. :-)
I’m looking at seed catalogues and mentally preparing my gardens. And enjoying time by the woodstove whenever I can. Hope you’re staying warm too!

Thank you.
You Minnesotans have real winter. Freezing rain is the worst. It coats everything and then the ice on the trees and the power lines falls and coats the streets like slippery, shattered glass.
