The Horrifically Hip
February 4, 2014
A BLOGGER named Wild Outlander analysizes the hipster’s craving for authenticity and says, if I read him correctly, that this craving ultimately stems from the artificiality of the hipster’s pose.

Very interesting post by Wild Outlander.
The hipster generation was raised with artistic or art-based educations. They yearn for stardom, to “live the life”. If you want to see real scorn suggest to a hipster that they are not artists.
Being a 59-year-old rock music fan, I can also attest to the whole authenticity thing and the concept that once a talent “makes it” they have “sold out.” The hip fan wants to be be onto something no one else knows about. It validate sone’s taste and intelligence. The hipster generation represents this writ large over a huge conformist cohort.
Wild Outlander also made me immediately think of this song by the Replacements. This was written by a GenX’er in the 80s. He laments his generations’ lack of real world cred compared to the boomer’s and their music.
