In Memoriam

May 25, 2015

AMERICAN composer Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Opus 11, performed here by the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Bernstein, expresses the sadness we feel today for all those Americans killed in war.

Sean writes:

In my opinion, saddest piece of music ever written. I remember hearing it in the car and having to sit and listen in the driveway. Great choice for Memorial Day.

Laura writes:

I thought the same thing when I heard it on a local radio station today.

Alex writes:

On this Memorial Day this music takes me back to Vietnam and fills me with anger and sadness at what is happening to my country. Many friends lost at ages 18-21. I was old at 20. All the losses we are sustaining on a daily basis, not to be seen again. Mr. Barber will be remembered by few in this world. Who will compose music like this in the future? Some Muslim or Baltimore denizen? Do you think Michelle O. listens to this on this sad day or would her boom box explode? Another great white male leaves the stage. There can only be war in our future.
