Miss Universalist

I recently returned from a one-month trip to Japan where, among the major components that constitute the Japanese mindset, I noted a strong societal affirmation that Japan must remain … Japanese. One does not see many other racial or ethnic groups in Japan; in fact, a walk in any major – or minor – town or city in Japan will confirm the noticeable absence of foreigners, except Chinese and American tourists, all of whom can remain in the country for only 45 days. This island nation is at least 95 percent homogeneous, and to the Japanese that is not a problem. But too many “gai-jin,” or foreigners, believe the Japanese national uniformity is a violation of multicultural ethos, and that this mindset must be changed. Enter Ariana Miyamoto.
This attractive young woman was recently voted Miss Japan, and will participate in the upcoming Miss Universe contest, but what makes Ariana different from her Japanese counterparts is that she is only half-Japanese, or “hafu,” as the Japanese would describe it. She is also half black, the daughter of an American serviceman and a Japanese woman. Hence, despite her fluency in Japanese, she is not accepted as fully Japanese, and the Japanese social media is now filled with comments to that effect. Recognized on the street, Miyamoto is welcomed as a contest winner by foreigners, usually Westerners, but the Japanese, whom she is supposed to represent, are not as generous in their praise. In fact, to date they have shunned her.
The Japanese public has seen the devastation wrought by the multiculturalism that now threatens to destroy the social fabric of many countries of Western Europe, where hundreds of thousands of African migrants now disembark each year to be treated as asylum seekers, provided with shelter and board at the expense of the citizen, who clearly does not favor such a policy. The average Japanese citizen wants no part of it, for they have seen the European Union also renounce its Christian history and background. The Japanese do not take their societal bonds and historical traditions so lightly.
Ariana Miyamoto’s situation is unfortunate, but not as unfortunate as the havoc that will happen if the Japanese decide to follow the multicultural path, of that I am sure.

“Miss Universe” is a trashy, globalist, Playboy-like money machine run by Donald Trump and NBCUniversal. It sells soft porn, gambling, other junky products and the ads of its corporate sponsors. It has nothing much to do with affirming the identity or traditions of the countries that participate. This year’s Miss Canada is Latin American. Miss Australia is a former Eastern European refugee.
I would guess that Miyamoto was favored by the contest because her story is attention-getting. If so, the strategy has succeeded. But then so many of the stories we see in the mainstream news are simply planted there by PR offices. What seems like objective news is really some form of advertising.
