Hoffman on Usury

It always intrigues me to dig deeper beyond the symptom of a given issue to the root of the problem.

Researcher and author Michael Hoffman exposes the root of all of modern societies‘ problems: the love of money. We are overwhelmed with external problems that affect us at all levels: individually, our families, our work, our local communities, state and federal governments, the entire world. Why is all this happening? The love of money.

In this 34-minute video, Hoffman summarizes his book Usury in Christendom: The Mortal Sin that Was and Now is Not. For the first 1500 years of the Church, usury was severely condemned as a mortal sin, comparable to murder.Beginning in 1515 Church leaders began to deviate from her stance, ever so slightly, until today, we see perversity everywhere. We cannot gain ascendancy because we are disobedient on this fundamental principle. We go from defeat to defeat to defeat. The progressives continue to gain the high ground. There is no evil greater than the love of money and usury is the weaponization of this love. Until we strike at the root of all our ills, usury, God will continue to allow us to suffer for our disobedience.

Pope Saint Pius X (1903 – 1914) saw this problem clearly and while still a newly minted parish priest, encouraged the formation of local loan associations based on biblical and Catholic principles called Cassa Rurales (Italian term for cash table, or rural bank), that helped farmers, shop owners and business owners to accelerate the full repayment of their crushing, usurious loans.

It is time we revived this Catholic institution and shut down the money monsters that rule our world, one morally sound loan at a time.

Thank you.

I haven’t read Hoffman’s book, but I am familiar with it and agree with your point.

Here is some stiff criticism of his central thesis.

May I recommend to you two Michael Hoffman works? One, his 1987 lecture entitled “The Occult Philosophy.” Two, his book entitled Secret Societies and Psychological Warfare, which is an expanded version of his lecture. Thank you for your time.
