At Lawrence Auster’s Grave
March 30, 2016
YESTERDAY was the third anniversary of the death of the writer Lawrence Auster, who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 64. A few of his close friends gathered at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pennsylvania on this blustery spring day to remember and pray for him at his grave under an oak tree. A soloist sang a few hymns, including this version of the traditional Irish hymn “Be Thou My Vision.”
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
Be thou my Wisdom, and thou my true Word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, and I thy true son,
Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise;
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.
High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
Eternal rest grant unto Lawrence Auster, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, Amen.

Kristor writes:
Without quite realizing why, I have been praying for Lawrence more than usual the last few days, remembering him and thanking God for him. Lawrence was my first internet correspondent, and a huge influence on my life, my thinking, and my writing. I still miss him, every day: guide, friend, and teacher.
In paradisum deducant te angeli; in tuo adventu suscipiant te martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Ierusalem. Chorus angelorum te suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere aeternam habeas requiem.
Mark Jaws writes:
Lawrence Auster was the closest thing I have ever had to a male mentor (my wife has taught me plenty). I miss him and his writing terribly. Thank you for paying tribute to such a wonderful man.
O my Jesus,
forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell.
Lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those in most need of thy Mercy.
Amen.
Fr. Michael Ruskin writes:
Thank you for sharing the time you spent at the grave of Lawrence Auster. Memory Eternal. How special.
I still delve into his View From the Right website when I need a ready and well thought answer for dealing with evolutionists /atheists. I can only imagine how he would be responding to what is happening today. He certainly would be manning the ramparts.
He saw only too well the sort of situation described here.
