A not untypical sampling [photo of an elf defecating on a cookie] of the type of stuff posted on a message board from my old neighborhood in New York around this time of year. It was a nearly all-Jewish neighborhood, and though the bulk of people in it would not have gone to the length of posting garbage like this, the message board itself, with a late-sixties hippie theme, is populated by many of those types, with all the cynicism and nastiness one associates with it. Within that group, many like it. The individual who posted it titled it “some holiday decorating ideas.”

Maybe not rising to the level of blasphemy, but just plain gross in its intent…perhaps not mocking Christ directly, but surely mocking the holiday celebrated in his name. I’m but a non-practicing Jew but whenever I see things like this I recall critical words about the obsession of aspects of Jewish humor with bodily functions, and excrement in particular.
