A READER writes:
Regarding Rachel Dolezal: Why is it almost always the case that any poor woman must be offered prostitution or porn? I guess when all else fails they always have that. Men have nothing really.
Laura writes:
That’s not really true. Men become pimps and porn dealers.

The above reader continues:
This is true indeed. Although porn dealing can’t be what it used to be, as that industry can’t possibly be making any money since the onset of ubiquitous recording technology. And pimps have been cut out by the web as well. And it’s dangerous too. Both are largely considered ‘bad.’ For a woman to do something sexual when in need is often considered praiseworthy; “she did what she HAD to do.” The trope about a college girl becoming a stripper to “pay for college” or that “octomom” lady stripping naked for the camera to “pay for her kids.” It seems there is pressure to do this stuff with the implied promise that the girl won’t be razed socially- and there is less chance of being rubbed out by a competitor or arrested. Between this and the same-sex attraction promotion, these seem to be the main tropes. Most young girls these days, and older ones too, are quick to strip/flash even on someone’s say so. Sorry to go on so long, this all sort of occurred to me upon reading of Ms. Dolezal, silly as she is, she didn’t hurt anyone.
