Women obviously valued exercise in the 19th century. But they didn’t value it anywhere near as much as they do today. And they didn’t exercise in immodest clothing in coed gyms or on public streets, a practice which does so much to undermine the dignity of women and their safety too. These corsets would have been worn in private.
