The Career of Harvey Weinstein

October 17, 2017

WHERE are the feminists marching on Hollywood to protest sexual abuse of women in the industry? They are nowhere.

Here is a good overview by The Washington Post of the career of producer Harvey Weinstein, with its longstanding pattern of sexual assault, as first reported by The New York Times. America’s feminist-in-chief Hillary Clinton had a longstanding friendship with him.

The content of Hollywood movies has degraded women and turned them into sex objects more than the patriarchal past ever did. So has the actual production. Hollywood is misogynist — and that is true despite all the power and glory of female stars.

Pedophilia is an even worse problem in Hollywood.

Here is a blog post on Harvey Weinstein’s anti-Catholicism.

Where are the feminists protesting the negative stereotyping of older women?

It has gotten to the point where every time I am present at a discussion involving high tech, I can expect someone to make a snarky comment about older people for their lack of “tech savvy.”

People have decided that tech savvy is the only kind of knowledge worth having. An older person is defined as anyone who didn’t learn how to download a mobile app by the time they were three.

The worst of this is directed at older women. “So simple, even grandma can use it” has become a common trope in advertising.

A small sample includes:

The Toasteroid first APP controlled Smart Image Toaster: “Toasteroid is designed to be simple, innovative and easy to use, so even grandma can use it!”

The ShopExpress web app:

“FAST & Very Easy that even grandma can use It” and “That means easy campaign adding & editing that even grandma can use.”

[Next time, have Grandma check your grammar before you publish something online.]

Chicago Inno’s 9 Wedding Apps and Gadgets You Can Use on Your Big Day: “It’s so easy, even Grandma can use it.”

[Maybe you should ask Grandma how to make your marriage last longer than a year or two.]

Socitrafficjet – Amazing Fast, Easy Social Traffic Generation WP Plugin: “Easy campaign adding, editing that even grandma can use it.”

Gizmodo: “a design that’s so simple even Grandma can use it.”

Savant AV design: Ever heard the expression “even grandma can use it?”

[Only a bazillion times.]

Finally, there’s an ad for the Ford Sync 3 music search system, captioned, “An Unsuspecting Nana Is Surprised By Ford SYNC 3,” with a video showing an older lady behaving like a clueless idiot while she learns how to push buttons on a console. That’s how old ladies are supposed to behave while learning how to do something complicated. Guiding her through the process is a millennial female of obviously superior intelligence—excuse me, tech savvy.

There is a very loud and strident feminist movement within the high tech industry, made up of females who seriously believe that men have prevented them from learning computer science and they’re determined to put a stop to that! But they couldn’t care less about the “grandma is a clueless idiot” stereotype.

Last summer, there was a big ballyhoo about Wonder Woman, a movie featuring a young female in a pervy bondage costume kicking comic-book villains. Women hailed this movie as a symbol of female empowerment.

But they don’t mind that older women are pegged as the lowest common denominator of stupidity and incompetence. One would think they don’t realize it will be their turn one day.

Interesting.

Maybe Grandma’s wisdom is threatening.
