Russian Fantasies

I have been reading your blog for a few months, and have been enjoying it, though I am Reformed and not Catholic.
I watched the Perestroika Deception video and your other link on the Russia deception was quite taken aback at the suggestions that communism is still in power in Russia and other countries. It honestly makes my head spin, and will at least make me read critically.
I am wondering how you would see the rise of populism in Europe and the increased Christian rhetoric from countries like Poland and Hungary. Would you see these as real and encouraging developments that we can take heart from?

Thank you for writing! My head has been spinning too over this subject. Hillary was apparently right about some things.
I hope the above video sheds some more light on the extent to which American patriots have bought into Russian propaganda.
As far as European nationalist movements, I think we can assume there has been similar subversion, but the extent to which fantasies of a Christian renaissance in Russia are promoted, I cannot say. Here is an interesting tidbit from the mainstream news in 2016:
Western leaders and Russia experts say the Kremlin backs fringe, ultra-nationalist and separatist parties to destabilize groupings such as NATO and the EU and to thwart U.S. missile defense installations that Moscow sees as a threat to its security.
They also say Moscow uses these movements to promote its political agenda, gain more political leverage within the EU and push for the lifting of Western sanctions imposed on Moscow after its 2014 annexation of Crimea.
You might wish to familiarize yourself with the cult of Alexander Dugin, who is promoted by some European nationalists. (And some North Americans. The Canadian pop “conservative” figure who goes by the name of Lauren Southern — her real name is “Simonsen” — recently met with Dugin in Russia.) Brandon Martinez (he posted the video in this entry) calls Dugin’s best-known work, Foundations of Geopolitics, “a maniacal screed advocating Russian world domination.” From Wikipedia:
In Foundations of Geopolitics, Dugin calls for the influence of the United States and Atlanticism to lose its influence in Eurasia and for Russia to rebuild its influence through annexations and alliances.[2]
The book declares that “the battle for the world rule of [ethnic] Russians” has not ended and Russia remains “the staging area of a new anti-bourgeois, anti-American revolution”. The Eurasian Empire will be constructed “on the fundamental principle of the common enemy: the rejection of Atlanticism, strategic control of the USA, and the refusal to allow liberal values to dominate us.”[9]
Military operations play relatively little role. The textbook believes in a sophisticated program of subversion, destabilization, and disinformation spearheaded by the Russian special services. The operations should be assisted by a tough, hard-headed utilization of Russia’s gas, oil, and natural resources to bully and pressure other countries.[9]
I’m sorry I am not more informed about European nationalism. You might address your question to Thomas Fitzpatrick at Fitzpatrick Informer.

Father Fahey in “The Mystical Body of Christ in the Modern World,” discusses how Masons and Jewish bankers promote wars between great powers to move their agenda forward. I wonder if this contention between Russia and the USA is more of the same by the above groups. Maurice Pinay of Maurice Pinay blog discusses on his twitter account some of the nefarious connections of Alexander Dugin and why he should be avoided like the plague. Ultimately, world peace will only come as more men once again accept the true Catholic faith through Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart. All other solutions will lead nowhere. A statistician or a historian did a study some years ago looking for which century in history had the least conflict. The historian or statistician found that the 13th century or the apex of Catholic Christendom was the most peaceful century in human history. It makes perfect sense as the amount of actual graces released to the word from the innumerable masses said in that century allowed for a real cessation of conflict even in the surrounding pagan areas worldwide. May we speedily regain a true pope through Or Holy Mother’s Immaculate Heart and a see a Marian Christendom arise.
Fr. Michael Ruskin writes:
As some continue to ask if Russia is still a Communist country it would be helpful to look at the facts. Patrick Buchanan has done the hard yards as regards the subject. “Is Putin’s Russia really a reincarnation of Stalin’s Soviet Union? Is Russia a threat of similar magnitude?.. By the beginning of Reagan’s tenure in 1981, 400,000 Red Army troops were in Central Europe,.. East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria were all ruled by Moscow’s puppets. All belonged to a Warsaw Pact created to fight NATO. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Ukraine were inside the USSR… And today? It has one-tenth the population and one-fifth the economy of its looming neighbour China, and, except for territory, is even more dwarfed by the United States with a GDP of $20 trillion, and troops, bases and allies all over the world. Most critically, Russia’s regime is no longer Communist. The ideology that drove its imperialism is dead. Where, today, is there a vital U.S. interest imperilled by Putin?”
It would be a serious misjudgement to think whatever God is doing in Russia is of no account because president, patriarch and people, remain Soviets, that would be a glib and superficial claim. Although Putin has said his party membership is in his top drawer, that seems more of a politicians vote garner than meaning communist dogma influences his life in a deep way. I’m not unthinkingly enamoured by Russia nor unmindful of the problems they face, many of which also confront the West. However, the furor they are causing many in the West, and not only the Neocons and military/industrial complex, is intriguing. What does the claim Russia is deceiving Christians in the West actually mean? It’s a nothing-burger. One thing we do know, Russia is allowing for Christianity to affect the nation’s conscience. Church attendance pales in comparison to what it is in the US, but crucially, their traditional spiritual and moral compass has been rediscovered and is being dusted off. In the West any substantive influence from Christianity went out with the garbage a long time ago.
If Christianity is on a leash there we need to be mindful so it is in the West. For example, Queen Elizabeth II, gave Royal Assent to a bill creating homosexual “marriage, “ which passed into law in 2014. I thought at the time if that wasn’t one issue the sovereign, who is also Head of the Church of England, should refuse to sign, that would be it. Not only that, the Archbishop of Canterbury opposed the legislation but never resigned over the issue. Neither of them are Communists, but can their behaviour be considered less helpful to the ordering and maintenance of a Christian society than we might expect from secularists? And how many Roman Catholic politicians supported similar law in the USA? The point being, decrying Russia as being in thrall to Communism, when they don’t pass such laws, comes across as a rant.
The whole world lies in the hand of the evil one yet the Lord hears the cries of His people. The Red Terror was a dreadful nightmare and I can’t see Vladimir Putin secretly planning for the return of such an environment. Is it seriously proposed the Russian president or the Orthodox patriarch are practicing Communists? In any case, the Lord says to let the wheat and tares grow together until the harvest. While we should hold people to account, as far as possible, ultimate and inescapable judgement is reserved till the final harvest.
Jesus spoke about a man who had two sons. One said he wouldn’t do what was asked of him, but did. The other said he would, but didn’t. Which was more pleasing to their father? He went on to say tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of them. Perhaps we might allow ourselves to imagine the entrance of a repentant Communist ahead of self-righteous hypocrites? The Holy Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church has recovered somewhat from the bitterness it experienced during Soviet era but are some resentful of this? Is there any joy on their part for a restoration of faith? To quote St Paul: Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: notwithstanding,.. whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice.
Ultimately, we are accountable for ourselves and not for Russia. They can be admired for the good they do and criticised for the bad. Just like us. The West has become a secular atheistic project alienated from Christ who gave shape to our civilisation, we celebrate baseness and produce very little that edifies the human spirit. Your site is a wonderful exceptional breath of fresh air in this regard, so thank you. Finally, it seems to me people are not so much deceived by Russia but see in them something of what we have lost. The situation calls for humility without which no one will see the Lord.

Thank you for your concern and comments.
I refer readers to a response at Fitzpatrick Informer to similar comments from Fr. Ruskin:
The idea that the Russian Federation is the last bastion of Christian orthodox theocracy and, therefore, must defend itself is a wonderful one, but it does not stand under scrutiny. Firstly, many proponents of this perceived Russian-theocratic state point to the number of NATO military bases surrounding Russia as an indication that Russia is not an aggressor but is, instead, only acting defensively. But they can’t seem to explain how this supposedly superior Western-led NATO military occupation couldn’t manage to stop Russia from annexing Crimea, much less retaliate. Aside from a few show sanctions imposed by then U.S. President Obama (a secret communist himself) and other Western nations following the annexation, we didn’t so much as see a budge from a single NATO tank in response. Why? The only two conclusions one can come to is that NATO and the West are not militarily superior to Russia and her allies or, worse yet, the two sides are in on the charade together. Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty has been invoked only one time, following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks—provoking a Western-led military campaign in which Russia acted quite passively, even endorsing the U.S. narrative of things. Is NATO really anything more than just a show army designed to trick Westerners into thinking the communist threat is being dealt with while the threat actually becomes stronger? I fear this may be the case, especially seeing as the Soviet plan involves dismantling NATO by subversion, not by guns—the same way the Church is being co-opted.
In the spirit of Lenin and his living student Aleksandr Dugin, defenders of Russia point to the infectious moral decay of the West and how this legitimizes Russia’s social and geopolitical manoeuvrings. While this is true about the West’s moral decay, these defenders don’t seem to be asking themselves what the motive is behind these charges. It’s one thing to point out immorality from a Christian perspective but quite another to point it out for strategic reasons. Is Russia portraying the West as evil because it is truly evil or is it doing so to weaken its morale? I can’t count how many Westerners I have seen cheering on Russian (Soviet) penetration of the West thinking it will destroy globalism. How ironic and twisted. These same also fail to acknowledge the large Soviet hand in furthering the moral decay of the West. Soviet penetration of Western governments is one thing, but when you have Soviet penetration of the education system, it becomes all the more obvious how we got to where we are today. The Western counter-culture revolutions of the 1960s were largely hatched in the Soviet Union. Are we supposed to forgive and forget all of this because the media has shouted from every rooftop that communism has fallen?
Here is Putin stating that Communism and Christianity are very similar:

I would like to point out that Fr. Ruskin is of Christ the Saviour Antiochian Orthodox Church in New Zealand.

Regarding the response at Fitzpatrick Informer to Fr. Ruskin…..
This reads like one of the typical, mindless, uninformed tropes that the MSM neocons constantly dole out in order to traumatize the zombified American public in hopes of getting them on board with YET ANOTHER military aggression against the ubiquitous “boogeyman”.
The writer claims that NATO can’t possibly be a threat against Russia because, after all, they couldn’t stop the annexation of Crimea. LOL. He then goes on to inform of us only “two possible conclusions” as to why oh why this could possibly be.
Let me introduce a third conclusion that has been WIDELY REPORTED internationally for years, even mentioned by Putin himself repeatedly to western journalists; that being that Crimea wasn’t “annexed”, it wasn’t anything of the sorts, not even close. The vast majority of people of that area identify as Russian, not Ukrainian, (and have been done so for generations and until very recently it was a part of Russia) and are native Russian speakers, that they voted, overwhelmingly, ( I believe it was upwards of 90% in favor) in a democratic referendum to join Russian when the Ukrainian government was illegally overthrown by a CIA orchestrated coup. All of this is easily verifiable, even with recordings of phone calls all over the internet of the Jewess Victoria Nuland, the former American assistant secretary of European and Eurasian affairs, speaking openly of who they were going to install as the next leader of the Ukraine after their latest murder spree was all wrapped up. How cute.
Could it at all be possible (written with as much sarcasm as possible), that NATO didn’t “move” on Crimea because such a blatant, unjustified, act of war would have completely exposed the US and its lackeys in that organization as the international, Jewish, gangster cabal that it is? Being of course that they are THE “self appointed experts on freedom” that are constantly blabbering on and on about “democracy”, “respecting the will of the people”, “respecting elections”, blah, blah, blah, blah……
The writer also speaks of “Russia’s social and geopolitical maneuverings” against the west. What, may I ask, may they be, because he only spoke of the laughable, easily disprovable, claim of Crimean annexation. Pissgate perhaps? LOL. The infantile claim that the American election was meddled with by the purchase of 300 thousand dollars of FB ads to sway it in Russia’s favor? The “terrible injustice” done by Putin of jailing the vial, intolerable, hags of Pussy Riot? Russia throwing out the nation wrecker George Soros? Need I continue? Who is this commenter, the mendacious sodomite Don Lemon from CNN? Give me a break.
He then goes on to remind us of how it was the Soviets that morally subverted the US decades ago. What he either doesn’t understand or didn’t bother to mention, or perhaps even purposely omitted is that the communist, Soviet government was an immoral, Jewish movement that marches in lockstep with the Jewish supremacist ideology of world domination, even to this day, and are the same cretins that are currently pushing faggotry on us, feminism, abortion, you name it……..if it is abominable, they are doing it.
So no, in closing, we are not supposed to “forgive and forget” as he says, because the media is shouting that communism has fallen. But we may wish to reasonably assess the situation for ourselves and see that there are countless events that have taken place over the past couple of decades that provide much evidence that it would very well behoove us not to hold the current Russian nation and administration hostage to the past misdeeds of the same, vile cabal that took them to hell in the same way they are currently taking us there.
