The Ignoble Bystander

January 22, 2019

JOSEPH H. writes:

I came across two tweets this morning that deserve mention. First, an old standard:

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12 King James Version (KJV)

What we are witnessing today is nothing less than the titanic age-old struggle of Good vs. Evil and until and unless one recognizes this one does not possess the cognitive tools to begin to apprehend the nature of our current travails.  The forces of darkness have largely succeeded in convincing us that the hoary old devil is merely an expression of a dated world view, a myth.  It wasn’t until I finally invoked the metric of Good vs. Evil that I was finally able to understand current events and our descent into odious evil. Reason alone, stripped of Hoffman’s Logos is wholly inadequate to the task of analysis.

And the second:

As we inch toward civil war, the noble centrist looks down from Mount Olympus and can see both sides.

Ah, the dispassionate observer!  Cool, collected, above the fray!  What will be called for, if we are to succeed, is men of passion and unremitting intensity where the fires of righteousness burn inexorably.
