A Neoconservative Fantasy

ON February 7, 2017 at an American Enterprise Institute event, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said that since the white working class is doing so poorly, it should be replaced by “new Americans.”

Nick writes:
Kristol points out something that happens to members in consumerist societies: they eventually become decadent and spoiled, and therefore too useless to drive the economy.
The question I have, and this is a question I’ve posed to others on both sides of the political spectrum on our country in the past, is immigration into this country moral if our culture ultimately diminishes the dignity of persons by grinding them into proles who only find solace in the next cheap item or superficially pleasurable experience? Strange that Kristol and others are openly admitting, paraphrasing Adams, that our society turns its members into ravenously hedonistic monsters then disposes of them when they’re too broke and hopeless to boost the economy through endless buying then exchanging them for a new class of people who just end up the same way. Immigration then, on this view, is just a means to rearrange groups of people to keep generating economic growth, which makes human beings secondary to national wealth and ultimately expendable. Thus, immigration as it is today is contrary to the Church’s dictum that human persons are ends and not a means to be exploited. Should the Church really have such a big hand in the business of migration then knowing this? I think not.
Laura writes:
Immigration at the levels we have seen is not moral for all kinds of reasons, including that it overwhelms our culture, such as it is, and encourages outsiders to become rootless consumers and leave their own countries where they could make things better.
Kristol’s point that the white working class deserves to be replaced is so arrogant.
It’s modernists in the Church who have perverted Catholic teaching to become open borders zealots. They worship man, not God — the Other is especially idolized — and that’s why they positively need multiculturalism and the erasure of all traces of Catholic civilization, in which the supernatural comes first.
