A Plague Out of Thin Air

The strange thing about this pandemic is that usually panic or fear will precede any containment measures. I mean in a medieval plague people would see their friends, neighbors, families getting ill at home, or even strangers dying in the streets, and then panic would start, and then perhaps laws or containment measures by the authorities, right or wrong, would be created to address it.

Now in this pandemic it was the reverse. You hardly saw any panic (well, some people were panicking, but most were acting normally), and you didn’t have a lot of direct evidence of people dying en masse (I personally know indirectly of only one person, of all my acquaintances including 500 or so social media “friends”, who published online that she had this disease), but the harsh measures and the media were the ones that created and drove the social panic, not what we see in “real life” (maybe other people have more personal evidence of a pandemic? Because I don’t).

Add to that the fact that the measures seem to be ineffective or causing more damage than the disease itself. I mean, I guess the virus exists, but the “lockdown” seems useless either way, because even if we trust official numbers, the “virus count” keeps increasing regardless of each country’s policies, and so either it’s impossible to contain it and ”we are all going to die“, or, if not, then the disease is not as serious as they say, and in that case the lockdown is pointless as well. (This without counting of course the deaths that will certainly happen afterward because of poverty, despair, etc, caused by those selfsame measures).

So it can be suspected that the “lockdown” was the actual objective, and the disease merely the excuse. I at least don’t see how this closure of most small businesses leading people to ruin and suspending for months all social (and religious) life, and locking people inside their homes, many of them alone and with nothing to do, is doing much to solve anything.

Welcome aboard Zeno!  As it is written, “By their fruits you will know them.” I have long believed the lockdown was the objective and all the “models” were created to provide a pretext for it.
