One Day at a Time

As you have probably guessed, I live in a “lockdown” state run mostly by leftists, both D and R (mostly D). It is very frustrating! Today, I thought I would put my “get out of jail free” card to the test. I went in to a couple of McDonald’s. At the first one, I had just gone through drive through to get a sandwich and ate in the parking lot (of course). However, I simply didn’t feel like sitting in drive-through for 15 minutes for a cup of ice cream.
The manager (whom I have interacted with for years), told me as soon as I walked in that I must have on a mask. I told her I had a card that said I didn’t, and she repeated more loudly, you need a mask or you can’t come in. There were two other customers in the store, both with masks on as well, who looked at me and said nothing. When I got to her, I showed her my card, along with my coupons, and she told me they weren’t selling apple slices or ice cream (I had a coupon for each). I had just asked another employee in the drive-through earlier about the ice cream, so I felt that perhaps she didn’t really want to serve me since I wasn’t conforming to the “guidelines.” I persisted. Needless to say, I got the ice cream!
Thought I’d put it to the test again, so went into another McDonald’s with a friend who was wearing a mask. The manager said nothing to me at this store. At the third store, when I walked in, a tall male employee looked at me, did a double take, and started loudly telling me I couldn’t come in without a mask. The manager (a woman) said the same, with accompanying “shooing” motions with her hands. At this store, there were NO OTHER CUSTOMERS in the lobby. I was the ONLY customer. I responded calmly that I didn’t have to leave, and I had a card that said so. He told me again, loudly, that I must leave if I didn’t wear a mask. She finally came over, and from behind her plexiglas shield took a look at my card. Remember the card says that under the ADA I don’t have to reveal the nature of my mental/physical risk in wearing a mask. She said, “what is your problem, don’t you know it’s not just about protecting YOU, it’s about other people…” (so her mask, along with the plexiglas everywhere, wasn’t enough protection? and from what, by the way? a cold virus?). I wonder if she would have said this if I was missing a limb, blind, etc. I reminded her that the card said I didn’t have to reveal anything to her. She then seemed to back down, and served me my drink. No more drama. The other employee had stomped off in a huff, probably frustrated that I didn’t shamefacedly walk away. The manager never said another word about the mask.
I am not trying to be confrontational, just live my life as a free person. I have tried to explain to my friend about the mask issue. She works in animal health care, and should know about the concept of herd immunity. She has a son with viral-induced asthma, so I can understand her concern, yet I reminded her that until this COVID thing came along, she wasn’t wearing a mask. Germs are everywhere, don’tcha know? Her co-worker’s husband is working with a group attempting to manufacture a vaccine for COVID-19. He has instructed his wife to wear a mask. Interestingly, when I told my friend about the successes of hydroxychloroquine, especially when combined with zinc and azithromycin, she had never heard of it. She said she would ask her friend and husband. She seems to be relying on their opinion, so they didn’t know or didn’t tell her about that??? I told her she should not take one person’s word for it (even mine), but do her own research. It is so disappointing, as we have known each other for years, but I am afraid that our friendship is really being put to the test. She believes wearing a mask is “loving her neighbor,” and I think she thinks I’m being selfish. I can’t seem to talk her down off the ledge, no matter what facts, studies, etc., I share with her.
I can’t help but remember President Reagan’s words about how if we don’t cherish and fight for and protect our freedom, we may one day be telling our children’s children what it was like to live in America when it was free. I believe that day may be here. I pray that it is not.
Thank you for reading, and being a great source of information and advice for freedom-lovers everywhere!

You’re welcome, and congratulations on your persistence.
But please do me a favor.
Try to eat something other than McDonald’s.
I know, I know. It’s cheap, fast and easy, and you probably have a busy work day filled with commitments that don’t make picking up healthy food easy. I understand and sympathize, but McDonald’s really doesn’t care about you. It’s a purveyor of non-food, even more so for the poor and simple who are suffering from diabetes and obesity largely caused by fast and processed trash.
Where’s government tyranny when you need it?
Seriously, insisting that people wear masks in a McDonald’s is like insisting that poison be served in a sterile glass.
If you kick the habit entirely, if you just vow never to eat at a fast food outlet again, you will find food elsewhere or you will take it from home. You might initially go hungry, but you will adjust. And you will feel better for it. The poisons of fast food have a cumulative effect over time.
Now, there I’ve gone and given a you a little lecture. Housewives are born to nag; it’s an ancient occupational thing. It’s really, really annoying. : – )

Great analogy about McDonald’s! My visits were ostensibly to obtain food or a drink, more kind of as a social experiment, but mostly because I prefer to live my life as a free individual. If we don’t stand up now, when will we? If it’s not about fast food, it is about every single thing that we once took for granted in this country, including sporting events, graduations, proms, weddings, funerals. There is simply no legal or scientific basis for the shutdowns! “The government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed,” and we have given consent by not resisting.
I have had Christian friends tell me that they agree, but can’t seem to abandon the argument that “God’s law isn’t being violated” by these lockdowns.
My response has been, do you not believe that “we are endowed by OUR CREATOR not the government with certain unalienable rights”? And what about the masks?
Again, a Christian friend said it wasn’t a “religious” issue, although masks strongly resemble a burka (which by the way, is optional in Muslim culture!). We are made in the image of God, that includes our face, the most recognizable aspect of our being and what distinguishes each of us from the billions of others in this world! We should not be forced to cover it! It is depressing at times, but we must band together and remain strong. (And not in the phony, sappy meaning that the propaganda we see on TV encourages … y’know, we’re “schtrong” when we are begging to go places we once freely visited, begging to open up our businesses to the public, when we stay home and hide under our beds in fear…)
I believe the fear is more a fear of the government than a virus, if truth be told, but I don’t think most people are ready to admit that yet. Churches need to stand up first – the world is watching.
John Adams once said, “Where the people fear the government, there is tyranny. Where the government fears the people, there is liberty.” The only way to fight the Covid machine is through the impassioned resolve of freedom-loving people everywhere. The petty tyrants that are emerging at all levels of our society can only be stopped if we meet them with a firm resistance. This battle is for our children and their children, if the LORD tarries.
We must stand up. We can’t fight on our knees!

Wonderful! Hip Hip Hooray! I agree 100 percent.,
This is fundamentally a religious issue. No question about it.
