Here in Oregon the smoke smelled like burning landfill. When it finally rained, the smell was a more putrid wet landfill.

The fire department notified us that masks were not effective with the smoke. A friend who wore a mask just to test it, showed me the  inside of her mask after being outside one hour. It was covered in soot. Apparently Covid molecules are a similar size.
