On Not Voting (for Tyrants)

I read some of your recent points on voting and am wondering if you are familiar with Catholic theology on the matter.

It was recently laid out here and here.

I am not interested in debating this as Catholic teaching on the matter is clear and it is that to which we ought to submit, without question.  I am simply passing this along out in the event you were unaware.

Thank you for the links and your concern. Even though the issue is not worth discussing for you, I will make a few points.

I have read the articles you cite and I will study them further. But the matter in this case is not, I believe, resolved by them.

The theologians quoted say it is permissible to vote for the lesser of two evils, not absolutely obligatory. They do not say one must vote if one believes both candidates would cause grave harm. Furthermore, Pope Pius XII states:

Everyone has to vote according to the dictates of his own conscience. Now, it is evident that the voice of this conscience imposes upon every sincere Catholic the duty of giving his or her vote to those candidates, or those lists of candidates, who really offer sufficient assurances for safeguarding the rights of God and the souls of men, for the real good of individuals, families, and society, according to the law of God and moral Christian doctrine. (Address to the Delegates of the International Conference on Emigration, Oct. 17, 1951) [bold added]

As I said before, the reason I would not vote for Trump this time (I voted for him in 2016) was not ultimately about his personal failings but about his promise to deploy the military to deliver a vaccine. This vaccine could be gravely harmful. I do not believe it was right to give my consent in any way to it. Nor could I consent to the grave harms posed by a Biden presidency (there are too many to list). Furthermore, as I said, Trump was lulling voters into complacency.

These are extraordinary circumstances in which both candidates were promising dictatorial actions, were essentially working toward the same goals — indeed, they were both promising continued economic, psychological and physical warfare against the citizenry.

I will continue to study the matter, but I am not convinced at this time that I was required to vote for either of them. Many people have already died because of the recent actions of government. Nothing either candidate proposed to do counterbalanced these serious crimes against the American people.

(By the way, I voted in state races and for a write-in for president.)

I have no interest in debating anyone on the question of voting in mass elections, or basically any other question for that matter. Been there, done that. It’s mostly a waste of time, although it is good for honing one’s debating skills, if that is your thing. I will, however, offer suggestions from time to time if I think they may be helpful to a particular individual over a “long haul” scenario in which one plants, another waters, another pulls weeds and so on. In this case I would suggest Patrick, et. al. read Zippy (R.I.P.) on the matter. All of him. Beginning here.

I just had to email you and say THANK YOU because your recent posts have been a real source of consolation these past few weeks!!  Seems like everyone around me (especially here in Kansas!) is going nuts over Trump and waving the “you have to vote” flag in your face.  Understandable, I suppose but also quite frustrating when no one cares a bit about praying or having Rosary processions for a Catholic pope!!!  Anyways, I really appreciate the points you made in today’s post!  I’ve read the Pope’s words several times over the past few weeks just to make sure I wasn’t committing some sin by not voting — but I always felt like I got off the hook after reading the parts about “voting your conscience” or if you thought one of the candidates would do anything [against] “holy days of obligation or matrimony, etc.”  You are wise to say you will continue to study the issue and I thought it was great you still voted for other officials…I know I should study it more too as I personally wouldn’t be able to give a good rebuttal if someone asked me why I didn’t vote… but your points struck me as good Catholic common sense. So thank you for writing out your thoughts and objections.

Thank you for your kind support.

I definitely remain open to correction on this issue. We have to be careful not to fall into political quietism, or believing that because we pray, politics are essentially unnecessary or that we are above all that.

If Biden does assume the presidency, the same inner conviction that made it impossible for me to cast a vote for Trump will, I hope, make it possible for me to risk a jail term for, say, not wearing a mask.

To all Trump voters out there, I sincerely sympathize with your disappointment. The election is not over, however, and Trump may still retain office. I hope he does at this point because it is obvious there has been massive fraud.

If this election fraud stands, I hope you will see the bright side.

You are no longer associated with someone who, according to a writer commenting on election day 2020 in Arutz Sheva, has been the “greatest supporter of Noahide law in U.S. history.”

The Noahide laws call for the beheading of Christians (idolaters) and have been endorsed by the U.S. government in Public Law 102-14. (As one reader put it, a vote for Trump was a vote to lose your head.)

They are the institutionalization of the Talmudic master race creed. Scary stuff supported by Ivanka and Jared and their supremacist Chabad cult. But remember, they want to scare you.

You also will no longer be associated with someone who frequently flashes Masonic hand signs and is almost certainly a member of the brotherhood. Freemasonry is devoted to secrecy, deception and order through chaos.

Yes, Biden is as bad or worse. But you had nothing to do with his coming to power.
