Confessions of a Public Defender

August 10, 2024

MICHAEL SMITH was brimming with high expectations when he became a public defender in a large city in the South.

He describes his brutal lesson in reality:

If you tell a black man that the evidence is very harmful to his case, he will blame you. “You ain’t workin’ fo’ me.” “It like you workin’ with da State.” Every public defender hears this. The more you try to explain the evidence to a black man, the angrier he gets. It is my firm belief many blacks are unable to discuss the evidence against them rationally because they cannot view things from the perspective of others. They simply cannot understand how the facts in the case will appear to a jury.

This inability to see things from someone else’s perspective helps explain why there are so many black criminalsThey do not understand the pain they are inflicting on others. One of my robbery clients is a good example. He and two co-defendants walked into a small store run by two young women. All three men were wearing masks. They drew handguns and ordered the women into a back room. One man beat a girl with his gun. The second man stood over the second girl while the third man emptied the cash register. All of this was on video.

My client was the one who beat the girl. When he asked me, “What are our chances at trial?” I said, “Not so good.” He immediately got angry, raised his voice, and accused me of working with the prosecution. I asked him how he thought a jury would react to the video. “They don’t care,” he said. I told him the jury would probably feel deeply sympathetic towards these two women and would be angry at him because of how he treated them. I asked him whether he felt bad for the women he had beaten and terrorized. He told me what I suspected — what too many blacks say about the suffering of others: “What do I care? She ain’t me. She ain’t kin. Don’t even know her.”

Thank you for posting this. There seems to be a pervasive lack of empathy among blacks. It becomes clear from their own statements and behaviors. I had black co-workers, a couple even came close to being friends. But eventually all ended up bragging about their preferred status over me, as a white. And always they blamed others for their own poor decisions/misfortunes. Foolishly, I worked in black urban neighborhoods as a young visiting nurse, and was frequently shouted at to get out of “their” neighborhood, called “Bitch!” as I simply drove past by young males I had never met, or pulled into side streets only to find them filled with a mob of young black, glaring men, at which point I slowly backed up and took another street. The older blacks were often fine, apologizing for the “trash” next door, and watching til I safely got in my car.

I am done making excuses for them, seeing them as the same as whites and race only skin deep. There are tribes and races for a reason, the Tower of Babel comes to mind. And now, only brainwashed and bullied white people still believe the old social engineering lies. All other races and ethnicities are tribal, and celebrate their differences. LOL, the jewish friends I had when I was young refused to go to a large mall nearby because there were “too many schvartzes”. Blacks (really their handlers) decry education and literacy as “whiteness”, and reject it, while now appropriating the achievements based on those things. It is simply an enviousness, and if they can’t be white they will kill whites and claim their achievements. Law of the jungle.

I am speaking in generalities, as there are outliers/exceptions among all races, of course.

Your experience is similar to mine as a newspaper reporter.

I remember covering a capital murder case in which a black man had been hired for about $100 to stab a nine-months pregnant woman to death. Day after day we sat through a description of the attack and how she fought desperately for her life. He stabbed her, as I recall, 90 times.

He showed not a sign of a remorse and pretended to read a Bible, but held it upside down.

I saw white psychopaths too, and there are many blacks who are kind and warm.
