Bigots and Big Lies

January 24, 2025

ALAN writes:

Thank you for informing your readers of the death of Anita Bryant. I would like to present a few thoughts representing the views of Americans who knew better than to accept the lies told about her.

Her critics claimed a thousand times over that she was an evil, mean-spirited, hate-filled “anti-gay rights” bigot. If that were true, once would be enough to prove it, wouldn’t it?  But they know they cannot prove it, so they repeat it endlessly in Big Lie snow-job fashion: A decades-long degradation ritual, standard Communist operating procedure.

Where is an Internet search engine that will not pound that Big Lie into Americans’ heads? Where are the journalists who will not echo that Propaganda Party Line?  I especially like the Google citations of encyclopedias for children with “information” about Anita Bryant’s life so that little kiddies will grow up absorbing all the lies and misrepresentations.

Americans cripple themselves by accepting the premises and vocabulary used by their enemies, a practice encouraged by propagandists calling themselves “journalists”.  It is one reason why Americans are so ineffectual in dealing with well-trained adversaries like “gay rights” agitators.  They are prisoners of false premises and a vocabulary of lies.  Who controls the words controls the debate.

I contend that there is no such thing as “gay rights”. The term “gay rights” is a legal fiction enacted into law for the dual purpose of erasing legitimate rights and expanding government power.  It is an anti-concept concocted and engineered by Leftists–Progressives, Fabians, and Communists–to function as one more prong in a decades-long, multi-pronged attack on Americans’ confidence in themselves, their country, and their form of limited government.  “Gay rights” has as much credibility as “panhandlers’ rights” or “trespassers’ rights” or the equally chimerical “rights” claimed by any other group of opportunists, parasites, or agitators-of-the-month-club demanding to be given something they could never earn.

If you had asked Americans in the 1940s to enact “gay rights” into law, they would have laughed you out of the room.  That was before Leftists made up “gay rights” out of the blue.  But the Communist-engineered “civil rights” revolution of the 1950s-’60s softened Americans up to a point where they had become receptive to such nonsense by the 1970s.  That they allowed such an absurdity to became a matter of public debate was itself proof of their moral-philosophical weakness.

Obliterating individual rights, private property, the traditional family, and limitations on government power have always been among the key goals of Progressives, Socialists, and Communists. Honesty has never been a notable virtue of such people. Anita Bryant “hated gays”, they claimed.  What they meant was:  They hated her because she opposed their goals.  If she had sought for any group of Christians the same coercive powers and privileges that “gay rights” agitators demanded for themselves, they would have shrieked in horror.

It is “gay rights” agitators who hate and seek to destroy Americans’ right of free association and right to be let alone.  They want us to forget those rights and learn instead to take orders.  It is “gay rights” agitators who hate your right to speak, judge, and act for yourself with regard to “gay rights” propaganda, and want to obliterate that right and substitute the coercive power of government to dictate how you will speak, judge, and act.  Anita Bryant spoke in defense of those rights, another reason they hated her.

People as gullible as Americans are always vulnerable to mistaken, rotten, evil ideas promoted in the name of do-goodism or innocuous fun or revolutionary “improvements”. Anita Bryant recognized “gay rights” propaganda as one of those rotten ideas and did what she could to expose it and oppose it.  She was right.  She said NO to agitators, provocateurs, and Left-leaning “journalists”.  To be part of such a crowd requires no moral courage.  But to say NO when nearly everyone else around you is saying YEA requires formidable moral courage.

Anti-concepts like “gay rights” have zero credibility. Their proponents have zero claim on your time or attention or mine, let alone our respect.

The Three Stooges occupied a moral plane higher than “gay rights” agitators: They did not demand that government enact laws compelling people to speak respectfully about them, hire them, watch their films, do business with them, accommodate parades for them, designate a month to celebrate Stooge Pride, or surrender our children to them to be indoctrinated in Stoogeology.

Propagandists calling themselves “journalists” have written that Anita Bryant was hit in the face with a pie thrown by an “activist”, not an “assailant”.

If she had done to that young punk what he did to her, propagandists calling themselves “journalists” would say she was a “hate-filled assailant” and he was a “victim” of her “hate”, as pure and innocent as the driven snow. “Journalism” = Propaganda.

Many ordinary Americans loved and respected Anita Bryant.  I was one of them.  I shall remember her for her talent, beautiful voice in song, American patriotism, sunny frame of mind, recognition of the joy and beauty in life, and wise understanding of proper moral-philosophical standards and corollary limitations on the power of government and law.

At View from the Right, Lawrence Auster wrote in 2011 that “The West Needs a Joan of Arc”.  Anita Bryant, standing virtually alone among “Conservatives”, was not that heroine.  But she showed the kind of moral courage and certitude that that heroine would possess.

Thank you.

You forgot to mention Jewish organizations and individuals. They’ve been foremost in pushing the agenda here. According to Joe Biden, they played the leading role in the fabrication of “gay marriage.” Destroy the family and you destroy what’s left of civilization.

It’s government tyranny enacted by a bunch of really mean people.

Anita Bryant cared about the welfare of children and for that she deserves our gratitude. May she rest in peace.
