The Diverse Universe of St. Louis

Last January, in a post titled “A Tale of One High School,” I wrote about the decline of the neighborhood around Cleveland High School in St. Louis, the story of a “dead school in a decadent city.”
Here is a brief update:
In three separate incidents just this month, pizza delivery drivers were attacked and robbed on the street behind that school. One man was hit in the head with a rock and knocked unconscious. Another was robbed at knife-point. The third, a woman driver, was hit in the head and face with a brick.
My father moved into an apartment on that street and just behind that school in the 1980s. If he were alive today, he wouldn’t even consider living anywhere near there. Diversity continues to take that neighborhood into the gutter.
