“Archbishop” of Glasgow William Nolan is seen here in a recent Facebook post making the inverted pyramid hand sign, which is associated with Freemasonry. That he would do it openly in Masonic Scotland is not so surprising. Could it have been accidental? Perhaps, but it just doesn’t appear that way.
Peggy Hall, by the way, recently did a post on the various Masonic hand signs used by celebrities and politicians. She includes many images.

Unfortunately, this gesture is not as bold as the writings and speeches of the Vatican II Church’s “popes,” from John XXIII to Leo XIV, which are filled with Masonic ideas — always mixed in with Catholic doctrine. They have openly pushed, for instance, the doctrine of universal salvation, which is part of the Masonic creed. They have warped the faith in the minds of millions, changing dogma, worship, discipline and morals — in short everything. But, and this is so crucial, they have mixed it with true Catholicism. Ambiguity and contradiction are their masterstrokes.
Apparently Nolan has upset some in his diocese for restricting the Traditional Latin Mass liturgy. I do not share in the public outcry regarding these persecuted islands of the traditional liturgy. I sympathize with the confusion, and know how distressing it is, but ultimately it is better if people are not tempted in the “indult” churches to pray in communion with false popes and apostate Rome. Not only are we forbidden to approach doubtful sacraments, but the traditional liturgy in the New Church creates a terrible double-mindedness that is not of God. The Novus Ordo Church, sad to say, is a non-Catholic sect that occupies many formerly Catholic buildings and therefore even what seems to be the Latin Mass is off limits to us. None of the “Traditionalist” or sedevacantist sects that have been created in response are part of the Catholic Church either; they have not received any papal mandate or jurisdiction. See a more thorough explanation of all this here. More here, here, here and here.
We are not entitled to the Mass. It is not a right of ours. Many Catholics in history did not have it. It was always an unmerited gift, and God, for very good reasons, has taken it away from us, obviously as a chastisement and an inducement to return to the Faith, which comes before the Mass. God has left us with sufficient graces, if we seek them in sincerity, in acts of Spiritual Communion and Perfect Contrition. St. Thomas Aquinas taught that Spiritual Communion, taken for the right reasons, can be as, or more, efficacious than actual Holy Communion, which we do not have. Perfect Contrition, in the absence of the Sacrament of Confession, has always been considered sufficient for salvation.
Regarding Nolan’s odd gesture again: Nine true popes of the Catholic Church warned of the dangers of Freemasonry to society and the Church. Even so, the United States government and that of most other Western nations never banned secret societies that conspire against religion and social order. Not only that, but the American Revolution was instigated by Freemasons and the ideas behind American-style democracy were heavily influenced by them.
We were amply warned of the danger.
