While accusations of corruption from the Chinese Communists are the height of  hypocrisy, it’s still instructive to note how those who made it to the  United States have imported their lawless business practices and lack of  ethics to the United States.

The Obama administration on Tuesday announced the arrest of a Chinese professor and the indictment of five other Chinese citizens in what it contended was a decade-long scheme to steal microelectronics designs from American companies on behalf of the Chinese government.

The indictment, under a provision of the Economic Espionage Act that is used only in cases where the government believes it can prove the theft was on behalf of a foreign power, was the largest since five members of the People’s Liberation Army were indicted last year, accused of hacking into the computer systems of American companies to steal technology for state-owned Chinese companies.

Her hair neat and glasses perpetually askew, she clutched her lunch and a packet of nail tools that manicurists must bring from job to job.

Tucked in her pocket was $100 in carefully folded bills for another expense: the fee the salon owner charges each new employee for her job. The deal was the same as it is for beginning manicurists in almost any salon in the New York area. She would work for no wages, subsisting on meager tips, until her boss decided she was skillful enough to merit a wage.

Xiafen “Sherry” Chen, an employee of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) office in Ohio, has been charged with stealing sensitive information about U.S. dams from an Army Corps of Engineers database. The database was allegedly hacked by Chinese spies in 2013, months after Chen had met with a Chinese official in Beijing.

Note Chen’s use of the phrase ‘the nation’ in her e-mail commending the ChiCom bureaucrat on his work in China.  ‘Naturalized American’ she may be, but it’s pretty obvious from the reported correspondence that she views Communist China as her true nation of allegiance.

This sort of imperial behavior is par for the course in Asian companies. The captain of the airplane wouldn’t dare disagree with her even in the face of considerations such as local air safety regulations, causing delays for flights stacked up for takeoff/landing, etc., as he has been trained from birth to accede to social hierarchy in all things. Even in a foreign country like the U.S.A.

FOLLOWING THE much-publicised case of the unauthorised surrogacy involving a Thai mother and an Australian couple, a raid by police and soldiers at a Bangkok condominium found nine babies thought to have been fathered by a Japanese man.

Former minister Paveen Hongsakul, who initiated the raid on Tuesday on Soi Lat Phrao 130, feared that in the worst-case scenario this “surrogacy-for-hire” scam may be related to the potentially fatal extraction of foetal fluid to provide stem cells.

She also called on authorities to investigate a case related to a woman who said she was paid for surrogate pregnancy, but lost the baby seven months into her pregnancy. Pavena wants investigators to find out if the foetus’s spinal fluid was extracted for the manufacture of cosmetics.

There’s a quite tasty, upscale restaurant in a major shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand which presents Westerners with a Thai-language bill, and Thais with an English-language bill, on the theory that the Westerners likely can’t read Thai at all and the Thais likely can’t read English, or do so quite poorly. Of course, there are extra items that the restaurant patrons didn’t actually order or receive added to the bill.

I know this is true because I observed it happening firsthand. When the bill came – in Thai – I handed it to my Thai dining companion, who proceeded to ream out the waiter because of the extra items added to the bill, causing him to lose face and amusing several Thais sitting at nearby tables.

Here’s an article about a similar practice at a Chinese restaurant. In several Asian countries, foreigners pay a significantly higher fee than locals when they visit tourist parks and historic sites which charge for access, attend sporting events, etc. Usually, these dual-pricing schemes are out on the open; there’s no attempt to conceal them.
