Tung Ho, of Portland

ANTI-GLOBALIST EXPATRIATE writes:

Tung Ho and Kyle Yamaguchi, Asian Americans who were employed by Nike in Oregon and are suspected of running a highly lucrative sneaker theft business, used a gweilo as a bagman – and so far, he’s the only one who’s been indicted.

According to The Smoking Gun:

When investigators searched Ho’s residence [in Portland,Oregon] on March 14, they seized 1941 pairs of Nike shoes and “a large sum of United States currency.” After being read the Miranda warning, Ho “admitted that he had stolen several hundred pairs of Nike Look See shoes and sold them in two (2) different ways” He sold about $15,000 worth of samples on eBay, while the bulk of the stolen “Look See” models were peddled through [Kyle] Yamaguchi, his “middle man.” Read More »

The Model Minority: State Government Edition

April 4, 2014

Leland_Yee

ANTI-GLOBALIST EXPATRIATE writes:

California State Sen. Leland Yee, of San Francisco, is yet another member of the Model Minority who does not fit the ideal. Yee was recently charged with trafficking in firearms while a public official. He is accused of “buying automatic firearms and shoulder-launched missiles from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, an Islamist extremist group located in the southern Philippines and attempting to re-sell those weapons to an undercover FBI agent, as well as accepting a $10,000 bribe from an undercover agent in exchange for placing a call to the California Department of Public Health regarding a contract at the organization.”

It’s quite a disturbing story. From the Los Angeles Times:

In all, 26 people, including former school board president Keith Jackson, were indicted on charges related to an extensive crime ring headed by well-known Chinatown figure Raymond Chow, who was also arrested and charged Wednesday.

The indictment alleges Yee and Jackson defrauded “citizens of honest services” and were involved in a scheme to traffic firearms in exchange for thousands in campaign donations to the senator.

ANTI-GLOBALIST EXPATRIATE writes:

It isn’t only Chinese ‘scientists’ who just make stuff up. A Japanese “researcher” has been founded guilty of falsifying date in stem cell research.

The Model Minority: Preschool Edition

March 26, 2014

ANTI-GLOBALIST EXPATRIATE writes:

In China, kindergarten teachers feed tots antibiotics without the knowledge of the parents, in order to try and ensure the children don’t get sick and stay home, thus cutting into the income of said kindergarten schools, which charge by the day. I guess those high-IQ northern Asians don’t know as much about medicine, not to mention standards of civilized behavior, as Westerners think.

Zero tolerance for absenteeism! Tiger Moms everywhere should rejoice!

The Model Minority and Agricultural Espionage

SHEILA C. writes:

I have neglected to mention how much I appreciate your shining light into this dark corner of ignorance. I long ago tired of reading how clever, hard working and moral all Asian immigrants are; my experiences living amongst them overseas only reinforced my earlier-formed views. In that vein, I offer you this recent article from Vdare about the theft of seed corn by Chinese immigrants.

The Model Minority: Immigration Edition

February 24, 2014

ANTI-GLOBALIST EXPATRIATE writes:

I’m shocked that this article about immigration fraud by Chinese immigrants made it past the cultural censors at The New York Times.  A network of law firms and immigration agencies has been implicated in many thousands of cases of suspected fraud in New York City. The Times refers to it as an “industry of lies.”

One Chinese man who worked as a translator in a firm involved in the phony schemes to obtain political asylum is quoted as saying:

“According to my system of values, what I did is correct.”

This is a prime example of the self-centered situational morality at the heart of Asian culture.

ANTI-GLOBALIST EXPATRIATE, who lives and works in Asia, writes:

Organized cheating on academic tests takes place all the time in Asian countries; accounts of wholesale cheating in China have received mainstream press attention, but it’s common throughout the region. The most common methodology involves students using mobile phones or small radio transceivers with earpieces to get test answers from someone located nearby who has copies of the tests, stolen or obtained through bribery from teachers and school administrators.

In the few instances in which teachers try to stop students from cheating (probably because the parents in question hadn’t paid the requisite bribes, or because the local government feels the need to make an example due to press mentions of rampant cheating in their areas), there’s generally a bad reaction from parents.

Eldo Kim

FROM The Harvard Crimson:

In 2009, then-high school sophomore Eldo Kim ’16 earned first place in the state of Washington in the U.S. Institute of Peace essay contest for his composition, “Cultural Genocide: A Look into the Unknown.” On Tuesday, he was charged with threatening to set off explosives in Harvard buildings.

Kim, the Quincy House sophomore who will appear in federal court Wednesday morning in connection with Monday’s bomb scare, was described by his peers as involved on campus and engaged in his schoolwork. They were stunned, they said, to hear that he had confessed to sending an emailed bomb threat to avoid a final exam.

Asians: The Model Minority

December 3, 2013

HERE is a fascinating discussion from VFR of June, 2012 in which an Indian commenter explains how he identifies with the British Raj. He is what Indians call a “Macaulayputra,” or Macaulay’s Child.

On a related matter, a reader says we should welcome those Chinese who wish to give birth on American soil so their children can live here as citizens, and I respond.
