A CANADIAN professor contends that some children swept up into the belief that they are not the right sex may be suffering from a form of autism.

 To accept the thinking and wishes of those with [an autism disorder] at face value, without understanding why they feel the way they do, is not a kindness, and may in fact be extremely damaging.
