Prophetic Lawrence Auster

March 30, 2020

YESTERDAY was the seventh anniversary of the death of the writer Lawrence Auster, who died of cancer on March 29, 2013, leaving behind many devoted followers of his blog View from the Right.

At Vdare.com, I reflect on his views of the future of America in light of our current crisis.

May God grant eternal rest to Lawrence Auster and protect and keep his many friends.

“By the standards of the world, he was a failure. He had devoted readers at his blog View from the Right for the last 11 years of his life, but he died as he had lived, in poverty and unknown to the general public—with the disgrace of writing about the most shameful of all topics, race and immigration.”

Fame in the world is overrated, and I doubt that he was concerned about it in any case. But he may still be vindicated, and remembered, when we go back to a saner world. Many of us who followed his writings (and who now follow this blog) have had our perception of things changed thanks to him. It’s a pity that he’s not around these days to see many of his predictions come true.

I don’t know what he would have thought of the coronavirus hysteria. The virus being real and deadly or not, it is pretty clear by now that the whole thing is being used as some kind of experiment to test new techno-authoritarian measures (i.e. change to digital money, surveillance by drones and cell phone data, lockdowns on any pretext, mass obedience training, etc), as well as an opportunity to loot the decaying West as it was done to the USSR during its collapse. All in all a very sad state of affairs, but there will be better times. We are getting close to Easter, a period of hope and renewal.

Thanks for concluding Larry’s response to a friend about 20 years ago with his observation that idolatry was rampant in America then and that maybe Americans needed to be shocked out of idolatry. That was very prophetic, because what he observed then is much more prevalent today. Time will tell if “…the rising evil…” of the virus and America’s response to it will shock America out of or more into idolatry. Some of that idolatry can be found among the neocons and idolaters of various types when they speak of “ American Exceptionalism “ and ‘ American Greatness “ and “ Keep America Great. “ Thanks for writing and submitting this very helpful article at such a critical time.
