The object of life and the final end of life are one and the same. There may be, and there are, intermediate objects of life, in which our present duties are involved; but to the man who knows God, and whose mental eyes are clear, the final object of life shines through them all. Those intermediate objects, as he knows from the light that beams from God as his final end, must be either overcome or be so mastered as to become the means to help him on to the one true object of his life. This is the solution of the trials and contests of our present life in this world.”
